And on the bright side, I found a fun new blog to read!.

All of this is making me remember the book Lunch in Paris. Such a great read! Maybe I can re-read it on the plane on my way there. :)

Dear Kid Rock

Watched the CMT Video Music Awards last night. I love country music, but I have no idea what CMT was trying to pull...

Dear Kid Rock (and also CMT),
You are not country. White trash does not automatically equal country.
He's wearing a silver track suit.
First, what men wear track suits?
Second, What country stars wear track suits?
'Nuf said.

Let me be clear, you look like an idiot.

I really think Jade put it perfectly last night when he asked, "So is he going to change his name to 'Kid Country'?"
Also- all country music stations nation wide, feel free to stop playing Kid Rock's music. I always change the channel.

Dear Sheryl Crow,
So many questions for you. Like why do you associate with the like of this:

Also, you showed the world your crotch when you got on your stool. Seriously. But kudos to you for coming back on stage later and owing up to it as well as telling us all that you were, in fact, wearing underwear.

Also kudos for having legs that hot.
But why, why, WHY, I ask, do you mix your voice with someone of no talent?

You looked much better here.

Other strange occurrences:
Ludicrous. At the Country Music Awards. He may be even less country thank Kid Rock.
And while we're at it: Jason Aldean (who he was there singing with) stop trying to rap. You're country. Leave the rapping to Ludicrous. Preferably on MTV.

Someone make this kid go away! It was bad enough that I had to see him on the MTV awards. Now he's all up in my country? His song with Rascal Flatts confirms my suspicions of that group... (Sorry Niki)

And I could never comment on country music without mentioning my crush.

I love you Jennifer Nettles. You are perfect always.

So, CMT, I get that you're trying to be cool. But stick to country, will ya? Those of us who like country music like it because it's different from pop and metal and rap. Don't try to blend them. Unless you want to have Keith Urban or Brad Paisley do another duet with John mayer. That's OK.

THXTHXTHX

I was reading Living Tall this morning (great post from her today, by the way. Exactly what AC and I have been discussing lately re: work satisfaction/what's really important) and she posted a note from THXTHXTHX. So I hopped over and checked it out. So great!

The author, Leah, writes a thank you note daily to something in her life. Some of them are hilarious, some inspiring. I love it!

A few of my faves:

I think I may start thanking the random things in my life too!

Art by Katie

OK, this is shameless promotion of my little sister. But she happens to be extremely talented, so it's OK. She used to draw and paint some as a kid and after moving to Guam she took it up again. She's gotten some pointers and tips and her skills are really honing.

She just started a facebook page (after I beat her over the head) to promote herself and her work. A few samples:
Cairn Terrier (aka- Toto dog if you're me)

Hugs!

Commissioned Work:

Pretty awesome, right?

You may remember that she did my Christmas cards for me last year (check them out here). The drawing of Van she did for that is my blog header so you can just scroll up too. If you have ever met Van, it looks EXACTLY like her. I have it framed at the apartment and sometimes I want to pet the drawing. :)

OK, so, if you are so inclined please "like" her on facebook and tell people about her.
She's teaching horseback riding and training, but this will hopefully be a way she can support herself when she and Justin have to move to goodness-knows-where next!

MTV Movie Awards Fashion & Commentary

I think we all know I am really no fashion maven. I'm not up to par on what's cool and even when I am, I often wouldn't wear it! But I do like to comment on it sometimes, and since fashion posts are the most popular I'm going to go for it more often.

I watched about an hour of the MTV Movie Awards last night. Genius timing on their part- there were no good Law & Order marathons on and so therefore nothing else to watch. It was ridiculously boring and badly written, I must say. And also- I had no clue whatsoever who more than half of the "celebrities" were.

Amanda Bynes, I know that I have not seen you on TV since your appearance in that random ABC Family show because you're a terrible actress. Maybe I haven't seen you in public much because you were arrested for prostitution. You look like a hooker. Those shoes are not cute and your dress is painted on! I am sure you work out 10 times a day for your body, and it's pretty hot. But the dress is disgusting.
If you visit P'cola, visit Cervantes and the alphabets because you'll deff get picked up.

First- Who are you? Second- why are you wearing tights in the summer? Third- if you can afford to go to the MTV Movie Awards you can afford tights without snags.

I also have no clue who this is, but she's wearing an Audrey Hepburn-esque dress so I think I like her. But how did she fit into her seat?

I like Emma Stone. And I actually know who she is because AC took me to see Easy A. Not a fan of this dress, but she does a cute thing with her lip when she talks so I forgive her.

I think this is the girl from True Grit, which I am DYING to see (I'm always super slow to get around to seeing movies). She looks a tad bit goth, but she is age appropriate and I like tuxes on women (girls in this case). Just get it more tailored next time.

This was the host. No clue who he is. And he's really not that funny either.

This is not appropriate. Or funny. Yuck.

Honey, your gig as a vampire is over. You can stop looking half dead now.

HAHA! I accidentally added this! Since AC is my fashion go-to I'll leave it in. She is perfect all the time.

Patrick Dempsey is also perfect all the time. Perfectly hot!

I'm not really a huge fan of Reece's dress here. But she was so adorable when she got her generation award! And I loved that she said, "You CAN make it as a good girl in Hollywood! And I hope I show that. And if you take naked pictures of yourself- don't get your face in the shot! Hello!"
Excellent advice.

Wow- WHO is this? Those teeth!

I think this is the girl who dates Justin Beiber. Justin Beiber is completely lame, so I have no idea WHY she dates him. But she's adorable here, so OK.
Also- the comment by that host guy about her making out with Justin Beiber and swallowing his baby teeth may have been the only funny thing he said all night.

This guy really isn't that hot to me. I can actually kinda see the appeal, but he looks kinds strange, doesn't he? Dude- buy new shoes.

THIS proves that he IS strange and it's exactly why he is not allowed to go anywhere near my sweet T Swift ever, ever again.

This guy is hot! But guess what, he is apparently in some new MTV show called Teen Wolf. He is clearly not a teenager. He's at least as old as me and I haven't seen my teens in ages. So odd casting there...

OK, that's all I've got! I turned it off and went to bed early, I admit it. It was BORING!

By 30...

Last night I went to my first ever MeetUp group. It was great and I loved it! The group is for 20-something women in my area that just want to make new friends, socialize and relax. The other girls there were in their early 20s- like 23! Umm, I don't even remember 23! OK, yes I do, I was graduating from college. I realized last night that one year from now I will no longer be a 20-something. I'm not really scared, I'm OK with the number. There are definitely things in my life I would have hoped happen by then, but we'll see.

I remembered this poem while I was mushing over these thoughts. I have loved this since I read it. It's by Pamela Redmond Satran and she wrote it for Glamour Magazine.

Really, Dude?

I simply do not understand the ghetto car thing.

This lives just outside my apartment window:

Now, there is nothing particularly remarkable about this car, right?
I thought not.
So why, I ask, does the dude have a very loud, very obnoxious alarm on his car? One that goes off during the night at least once a week?

And yesterday I noticed this- matching brown rims. He had it jacked up in that very space- front and center- for two days last week changing those. I thought he had a flat or something. Nope. New rims.
Also, the paint in glittery. (I'm sure he's appreciate that description).
Yesterday when Van and I were getting out of our car her wagging tail (which is 99.9% fluff) brushed his car and it gave warning beeps. She's not breaking into your car, buddy, she's a dog.

Is someone really going to try and steal this car? Really? We don't live in the Bronx or NYC. It's Spring, Texas. If anyone is going to steal something it will be a diesel truck.

So have I missed the ghetto car trend? Am I out of the loop? What up with the tricked out pieces of crap?

Playing with and keeping up with my nephew and niece take up a lot of my time. Van Geaux takes up the rest of it. Work is an afterthought most days! I like to be outside- but not when it's too hot. I get bored at my desk all day. Niki keeps my world spinning and without her and AC I'd lose it. My work ethic crashes at 4 p.m. daily and I live my sweet puppy and my hedgehog whenever I am not at Niki's. I truly believe naps are quality pass-time events, and sometimes I say bad words at work. I'm pretty sure I'm insane on multiple levels and I believe rules don't apply to me.
It seems that my life is quite entertaining. I didn't realize this myself, but was informed of it by my friends- who are rather entertained by tales of my life occurrences.

I'm far from a professional writer. These are just stories, comments, and other items for simple amusement. Hopefully it's a fun read, as Shannon plans to edit it into a book one day! Maybe we'll become famous, and maybe we'll just have some good laughs at my expense (and some other characters in my life). Either way, happy reading!
