The Healing Power of Glitter

I had a friend once that said if you put on sparkles and you don't fell better- you should be able to sue the glitter company. Because, really, how does looking at sparkles not make you feel better? If it doesn't, then something is wrong with you and my advice is to pile on more sparkles until you are over yourself.

My mother dressed us in masses of rhinestones and glitter and ruffles when we were kids. For years I had a very strong, very real aversion to all things glitter and ruffled. But slowly, I am reacquiring my tastes for them. More so for sparkles than ruffles.

Today I was having an off day and so I did exactly what my besite, AC, taught me and got a manicure over lunch. Mood gone, glitter good! I went for "Bring on the Bling." It scares me a little that this is from OPI's Burlesque collection, but a girl has to do what a girl has to do. Even if Burlesque was quite possibly the WORST move I have seen in years. Sorry Cher.

PS- couldn't get a good pic of my own nails, so I stole this one from someone. You probably noticed.

This glitter love I have has really taken flight of late, and is making my life much more fun. Some other glitter lovelies from my Pinterest page (LOVE Pinterest!)

All hail the healing power of glitter!

Lip Gloss That Lasts

I am not a lipstick girl- I am a lip gloss girl. Or really, mostly, a chapstick girl. But I wanted a little color with my shine. So I grabbed a tube of Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lipcolor because it was on sale. Guess what? It actually works! I was shocked- nothing that says color stay or long wear EVER works.

It's a little sticky when you first put it on- put just a thin layer of the color on and leave it a minute or two. Then top with the sheer and the sticky is gone. I'll put the shine or just chapstick over it the rest of the day and it lasts pretty well. Last night, after putting some on after lunch, I walked with Niki, ate dinner and slept and some of it was still on this morning. Pretty good.

PS- I'm not brave and didn't do this red color. I went with a pinky-nude.

MTV Movie Awards Fashion & Commentary

I think we all know I am really no fashion maven. I'm not up to par on what's cool and even when I am, I often wouldn't wear it! But I do like to comment on it sometimes, and since fashion posts are the most popular I'm going to go for it more often.

I watched about an hour of the MTV Movie Awards last night. Genius timing on their part- there were no good Law & Order marathons on and so therefore nothing else to watch. It was ridiculously boring and badly written, I must say. And also- I had no clue whatsoever who more than half of the "celebrities" were.

Amanda Bynes, I know that I have not seen you on TV since your appearance in that random ABC Family show because you're a terrible actress. Maybe I haven't seen you in public much because you were arrested for prostitution. You look like a hooker. Those shoes are not cute and your dress is painted on! I am sure you work out 10 times a day for your body, and it's pretty hot. But the dress is disgusting.
If you visit P'cola, visit Cervantes and the alphabets because you'll deff get picked up.

First- Who are you? Second- why are you wearing tights in the summer? Third- if you can afford to go to the MTV Movie Awards you can afford tights without snags.

I also have no clue who this is, but she's wearing an Audrey Hepburn-esque dress so I think I like her. But how did she fit into her seat?

I like Emma Stone. And I actually know who she is because AC took me to see Easy A. Not a fan of this dress, but she does a cute thing with her lip when she talks so I forgive her.

I think this is the girl from True Grit, which I am DYING to see (I'm always super slow to get around to seeing movies). She looks a tad bit goth, but she is age appropriate and I like tuxes on women (girls in this case). Just get it more tailored next time.

This was the host. No clue who he is. And he's really not that funny either.

This is not appropriate. Or funny. Yuck.

Honey, your gig as a vampire is over. You can stop looking half dead now.

HAHA! I accidentally added this! Since AC is my fashion go-to I'll leave it in. She is perfect all the time.

Patrick Dempsey is also perfect all the time. Perfectly hot!

I'm not really a huge fan of Reece's dress here. But she was so adorable when she got her generation award! And I loved that she said, "You CAN make it as a good girl in Hollywood! And I hope I show that. And if you take naked pictures of yourself- don't get your face in the shot! Hello!"
Excellent advice.

Wow- WHO is this? Those teeth!

I think this is the girl who dates Justin Beiber. Justin Beiber is completely lame, so I have no idea WHY she dates him. But she's adorable here, so OK.
Also- the comment by that host guy about her making out with Justin Beiber and swallowing his baby teeth may have been the only funny thing he said all night.

This guy really isn't that hot to me. I can actually kinda see the appeal, but he looks kinds strange, doesn't he? Dude- buy new shoes.

THIS proves that he IS strange and it's exactly why he is not allowed to go anywhere near my sweet T Swift ever, ever again.

This guy is hot! But guess what, he is apparently in some new MTV show called Teen Wolf. He is clearly not a teenager. He's at least as old as me and I haven't seen my teens in ages. So odd casting there...

OK, that's all I've got! I turned it off and went to bed early, I admit it. It was BORING!

Birthday Take 2 + Fashion!

Friday night Jade kept the kids so Niki and I could go out and have a girl's night. LOVE HIM!! We shopped on Market Street and had tapas for dinner. It was awesome to be together, just the two of us. And the food was delish.

Niki and her sangria. I'm sorry- is she note perfection?
Katie and I were talking about her on Friday and Katie informed me that Niki was completely perfect- Niki and Jesus. We got a good laugh out of it- but the general consensus is that Niki is, actually, perfect.

I had champagne since it was my b-day! Mmmmmmm

Hot pink limo! Uh, hello!

Goat cheese over fresh tomato topped with figs. Oh so yummy!

Hehehehehe. Oops!

OK, can we take a moment to talk about this outfit? I have been dying to wear this skirt, but haven't been brave enough. I didn't think I was quite stylish enough and the tops I kept trying it on with didn't seems right. But then I found this one in my closet and decided to try it out. I was so proud of me! Loved it!!
Top: Banana Republic
Skirt: $3 from the Goodwill
Necklace: B-day prize from My AC!!

Purple Pedi

First off- let me just tell you that Googling images of toe nails is a scary endeavor. I do not recommended it.

I've seen a few people with purple nails lately and thought it was too cute. So I decided to go for it. I'm in love! I went for the toes- because my ability at keeping polish on my nails is sad.

Not mine- but how cute is this? Must find a hammock to display my toes on!

Mine. FYI- getting a good picture of your feet is not easy. My feet really aren't that cute to start out with, either.

My color: Wet 7 Wild through the grapevine (Can't beat $1.99 polish!!)

Eye Liner

I have eye liner issues! It NEVER stays on! I think it's just me because I have tried Mark, Lancome, Clinique, Alamay, you name it- all long lasting, water proof, etc. A few weeks ago I read a magazine blurb about Urban Decay's 24/7 eye liner. Tried it- it bleeds. Is it just me? I've tried primer, using pressed powder under the liner. Surely there's a solution! (Emily??? bail me out!) I know liquid eye liner's supposed to be good for the issue- but let's be real here. I am waaaaaaaaaaay to much of a klutz. Like I could get it on without it being all over my face.

So what's the answer?

Let's Play Dress up!

Last night I was looking at my closet (depressingly small and over-stuffed) and all my clothes and thought to myself... wouldn't it be fun to have friends come over and create outfits for you from your wardrobe??? Think of the new creations from what you already have that different "fashion eyes" could create! Each friend could come and make a week of outfits and then you wouldn't have to decide what to wear for months. Sounds about perfect.

Here is who I want to come make me over:

And, seeing as I have no intention of showing you my closet, here is where I would want this to occur:
Oprah's Closet!!!

Or in honor of my AC, Fergie's closet.

Who's first???

Fall

So, I must admit that until recent years my Southern roots have not given me the greatest opinions of fall. I mean, we don't really HAVE a fall here. We have a few glorious weeks of summer New England Style (85 degrees) and then suddenly it's raining and cold. But I have traveled some the last few falls and thus have come to understand why the rest of the country loves fall so much. These are a few of my new fave fall things:

COLOR!
Who knew- leaves actually DO change color! And pumpkins and squash come into season and apples are pickable. Color color everywhere!

OKTOBERFEST
SO, I didn't even know what this WAS until last year. This year I went to the Oktoberfest put on by the German Naval Wing at Pensacola NAS and drank too much German Beer. Come to find out, it's stronger than American brews. We got into a pretzel food fight with the next table that ended up being shut down by a German Naval Officer. Kinda scary. I drank more beer to get over it.

PUMPKIN CARVING!
This year T and I carved pumpkins together and had a ball. I carved Van from a Better Homes and Gardens stencil, but notice I shortened that left ear so it was really her. I think it came out pretty well.

SCARVES & WRAPS
I have recently become a major fan of scarves and wraps. It's like getting to wear a little safety blanket!

And, of course, my all time Fall fave...
FOOTBALL!
Specifically, LSU Football. And we're undefeated so far, so HELL YEAH, GEAUX TIGERS!!!

What I Want to Wear

Kyra Sedgwick's red dresses from this season of The Closer!

All About Ashley

My photo
Spring, TX, Southern, United States
Playing with and keeping up with my nephew and niece take up a lot of my time. Van Geaux takes up the rest of it. Work is an afterthought most days! I like to be outside- but not when it's too hot. I get bored at my desk all day. Niki keeps my world spinning and without her and AC I'd lose it. My work ethic crashes at 4 p.m. daily and I live my sweet puppy and my hedgehog whenever I am not at Niki's. I truly believe naps are quality pass-time events, and sometimes I say bad words at work. I'm pretty sure I'm insane on multiple levels and I believe rules don't apply to me.
It seems that my life is quite entertaining. I didn't realize this myself, but was informed of it by my friends- who are rather entertained by tales of my life occurrences.

I'm far from a professional writer. These are just stories, comments, and other items for simple amusement. Hopefully it's a fun read, as Shannon plans to edit it into a book one day! Maybe we'll become famous, and maybe we'll just have some good laughs at my expense (and some other characters in my life). Either way, happy reading!
